Community Chaos In Rumphi As Four Families Face Witchcraft Accusations, Seek Refuge With Police

The small community of Group village headman Lisa, located under Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi, has been thrown into chaos following allegations of witchcraft.

On February 10, 2023, four families were chased out of their homes by an angry mob, who accused them of being involved in the disappearance of Harvey Msimuko, a man whose whereabouts have been unknown since January 3, 2023.

The families have been forced to take refuge with the police, who are providing them with shelter and protection.

However, one member of the accused families, Aaron Msowoya, has claimed that he was tortured by the mob, who also destroyed his property and stole three bags of fertilizer and maize.

Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe has condemned the incident, calling it a violation of human rights.
