Combating Cybercrime requires collective effort, says Gotani Hara

Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has called for unity of purpose in fighting against cyber related crimes.

Gotani Hara was speaking on Monday when she was presiding over Parliamentarians for Global Action workshop at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

She said cyber-crime is one of the constant challenges facing the digital world as by nature it is trans-boundary and trans-regional.

Gotani further decried that though in Malawi, comprehensive legislation have been enacted into law to deal with the monster, but the implementation has been a challenge.

The speaker cited the tendency of some people who are using cyberspace to illegally accumulate wealth in pretense of mobilizing resources for cyclone Freddy victims.

Of late Cyber security has become a dominant issue as it is no longer limited to just the digital world but also national security matter.

The workshop aims at finding actionable solutions on how member states, legislators among others can effectively help to deal with cyber-crime.
