Clergy prays for Malawi’s challenges

Representatives of the clergy yesterday held inter-denominational prayers at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe to seek God’s intervention in resolving Malawi’s challenges..

The prayers, organised and financed by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering-The Jesus Nation, drew participants from various Christian denominations and Minister of Mining Monica Chang’anamuno was the guest of honour.

The key note speaker Bishop Nick Magola of King of Kings International in South Africa said Malawi needs to take a futuristic approach to address its challenges.

He called on every citizen to think generationally, build capacity for the future and come together and pray for the country’s challenges.

Said Magola: “We need to think generationally, just like God does. We need to build capacity for the future of the country and most importantly we must come together and pray for our nation.”

In an interview, Bushiri said as a Malawian he feels pity when things are not working in the country.

He said: “We are praying for unity of politicians to work together. We are praying against subotage in government offices, we are praying against divisions in political parties in the country. We can’t build our country with divisions.”

On his part, Reverend Malani Mtonga also raised the issue of generational solutions to the country’s problems.

He observed that the country has been going in circles since it adopted the multiparty system of government, adding there is need to break the generational curse that is leading to moving in circles.

Some of the clergy who took leading roles are Pastor Chimwemwe Mtuwa, Rev Emmanuel Makalande, Bishop Gilford Matonga, Rev Billy Gama, Rev William Tembo and Prophetess Chimwemwe Kalua, presidential adviser on religious affairs Rev. Brian Kamwendo, former clerics who took the same position such as Rev Malani Mtonga, Rev Billy Gama, former Cabinet Minister Timothy Mtambo, among others, were in attendance.
