Civil Society Organizations Demand Suspension of Sattar Arms Deal

A combination of 15 Civil Society Organization’s-CSO’s moving under the Umbrella body National Advocacy Platform -NAP has demanded Government to suspend Zunneth Sattar arms deal and refund USD 4,983,400.

This follows revelations that Malawi government has been making clandestine moves and actions to revive the sale agreement for 16 military armoured vehicles, previously cancelled by the Attorney General on January 11, 2022.

In a statement released today -NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe demands the immediate suspension of the ongoing Sattar arms deal for 16 armoured vehicles and the immediate refund of the initial payment of USD 4,983,400 transferred to International Armoured Group.

“This should be coupled with a transparent investigation to unveil the full extent of this betrayal of public trust”. Reads the statement.

The statement further asks government proceed with legal action to anybody who was involved regardless of his position or political affiliation to act as a lesson to to would be offenders.

“The government must swiftly fortify ant-corruption frame work, signaling a genuine commitment to eradicating corruption from the highest echelons of power”. Further Reads the statement.
