Chizuma’s case shifted to Friday

Hearing of a fresh lawsuit against the Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) director general, Martha Chizuma, which was scheduled for today at the Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has been shifted to tomorrow (Friday).

Chizuma’s lawyer Martha Kaukonde has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Kaukonde, she received communication last evening from Police prosecutor Levison Mangani that the hearing has been moved to Friday.

Chizuma who is facing two counts, was today expected to enter plea for making a statement in a leaked audio alleging that High Court of Malawi judge Simeon Mdeza received a bribe.

She also faces a second charge for her statement alleging that former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Steven Kayuni is corrupt and compromised.

The lawsuit comes barely a week after President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera openly said that maintaining Chizuma as ACB boss is not to shield her from any prosecution over a leaked audio clip.
