Chitipa Road Accident CLaims Three Lives

At least three people have died while 41 others have today survived after two lorries they were travelling in, fell into a river at Chiweta Bridge (Lukwa area) in Kamene in Chitipa district.

Chitipa Police Spokesperson Gladwell Simwaka says the two vehicles, which were following each on the M9 road, were ferrying a dead body and people to Muchinga village for a funeral ceremony.

Simwaka explained that a two ton Mitsubishi Canter with registration NA 8277, driven by Aston Simwinga, 36 of Namasasa village T/A Mwaulambia in Chitipa was hit from behind by a Fuso Fighter with registration KA 8921 as they were approaching the bridge due to alleged speeding.

Driver of the Fuso Fighter is currently said to be at large.

41 people who have sustained various degrees of injuries are now receiving medical treatment at Chitipa District Hospital.
