Police in Chitipa have warned people in the district that they will arrest anyone found aiding illegal immigrants as the malpractice poses a security threat to the country.

Deputy Spokesperson for Chitipa Police, Rabson Mkandawire said that the police have issued the warning following the arrest of 25 Ethiopian illegal immigrants who were helped by a Malawian in some days ago.

“We effected the arrest of the illegal immigrants and one Malawian who aided them to make it into the country illegally following a tip from well-wishers from Kafora Village,” said Mkandawire.

Meanwhile, police has urged people who stay in areas close the country’s borders with other countries to be vigilant in reporting any presence of strange people in their areas to police.
