A ward councillor in Mwanje, Douglas Mkwezalamba, has been arrested by police in Chiradzulu for allegedly attempting to sell a grader that belonged to the government.
The grader, which was valued at around K500 million, had developed a fault and was parked in the councillor’s area.
Mkwezalamba is said to have sold it to a Tanzanian businessman for K3.5 million. The businessman and an accomplice were already apprehended by law enforcement officers, and Mkwezalamba surrendered himself at the police station.
He is likely to be taken to court after giving a statement.
