State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also United Transformation Movement (UTM) President has expressed worry over the tendency of some Malawians who wrongly interprets his proverbs with an ill motive.
Chilima said this when addressing some UTM supporters who gathered at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) to welcome him from South Africa where he attended the 5th Global Summit on Ending Child Labour.
The Vice President who looked uncomfortable to start his address with a proverb as per tradition said: Mwambi walero ndiyamba ndikuutathauzila chifukwa anthu akenu mumasokoneneza miyambiyo. M’moyo uno mavuto ena timawayamba dala tikuziwa kuti zimene tikuchitadzi sizikatheka. Ndatathauzila ndiye mwambi wake nawu- [Nkhokwe sawumbira m’nyumba, chifukwa imavuta kutulutsa kubwalo].”
The proverb excited UTM supporters as others were seen ululating.
There are speculations that all is not well between Chilima and the country’s State President Dr. Lazarus chakwera.
This follows recent endorsement by some top officials of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) led by Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara.
Hara recently endorsed President Chakwera as MCP torchbearer in the forthcoming 2025 Presidential polls.
