Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate has sentenced 22-year-old man to 13 years in prison after he violently robbed a motorcycle taxi operator (kabaza).
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Lilongwe police,Sub Inspector Foster Benjamin has identified the convict Kyton Chilembwe who admitted robbery which he—and his accomplice who is still at large—committed around 3: 00 p.m. last Sunday along the Bypass road.
The court heard from State Prosecutor Sergeant Rezina Majoni that the convict and his accomplice attacked the victim soon after he had dropped off a passenger.
A swift police action led to Chilembwe’s arrest at his Area 24 Ngwenya’s house and recovery of the motorcycle.
Prosecutor Majoni, however, asked for the court’s stiffer punishment on Chilembwe, arguing his victim nearly lost his life following a deep stab wound on the neck.
Jailing him[ Chilembwe], Nyirenda condemned the attack, saying such acts are rampant and a terror in the Capital City; hence the need to isolate such perpetrators from the society.
First Grade Magistrate Chakaka Nyirenda went on slapping Chilembwe with a 13 year prison sentence to deter thugs like him.
