Chikwawa DC hails Gesd projects

Chikwawa district commissioner (DC) Ali Phiri says Governance to Enable Service Delivery (Gesd) has helped the district to implement development projects.

Speaking on Saturday after touring Nkhwanga Community Day Secondary School and Nambesa Primary School in Senior Chief Ngabu and Nkhate Health Post in Traditional Authority Makhuwira, he also said Gesd has trained council officials on accounting, record keeping and finance management.

“Through Gesd, we have implemented projects in health, education and agriculture sectors,” said Ali.

Commenting on the Local Authority Performance Assessment, the DC said the tool has improved the council’s service delivery.

“These assessments have awakened our system and everyone is on their toes trying to ensure that we do well, we keep our records well and we keep track of everything,” said Phiri

Nambesa Primary School committee chairperson Watson Nsuza thanked the district council for constructing a new classroom block at the school.

He said for a long time learners were learning under trees, which forced others to dropout.

“The classroom block will motivate children, especially girls, to go to school,” said Nsuza.

Mikalango Ward councillor Khofati Malunga, who is also Chikwawa District Council chairperson, said the project will contribute towards the improvement of education in the area.
