A move by Nyamithambo Arts Palace to rename Nsanje district to ‘Khulubvi’ has received an opposition from some senior chiefs in the district.

The name, which was proposed during Khulubvi Cultural and Heritage Festival earlier this month suggested that the name ‘Nsanje’ has negative connotations.

The Senior traditional leaders, Tengani, Mlolo and Chimombo are not convinced with the reasons, while senior chief Mlolo observed, the country has more pressing matters than to embark on the name change which would have unnecessary financial implications.

Managing Director for Nyamithambo Arts Palace, Eric Trinta, believes that the name retards development.

He has since promised to have a round table discussion with the chiefs on the matter.
