Chief And Agriculture Official Arrested For Allegedly Possessing 89 National IDs In Kasungu

Police in Kasungu have arrested Senior Group Village Headman Mwimira, whose real name is Damiano Ntholo, aged 42, and a 33-year-old woman named Patricia Mtonga, an Agriculture Extension Development Officer for Chilipa Section under Chamama Extension Planning Area in Traditional Authority Wimbe for allegedly being found in possession of 89 National Identity Cards, contrary to Section 42 of the Malawi Registration Bureau.

Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Miracle Mkozi, revealed that the arrest of Senior Group Village Headman Mwimira and Patricia Mtonga occurred on November 1, 2023 and their alleged offense took place on October 31, 2023, in Mwimira Village, around 13:00 hours.

According to Mkozi, the police received a tip from a concerned citizen who reported that the suspects had multiple National Identity cards collected from various beneficiaries of the Agriculture Input Subsidy Program (AIP).

Both suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer the charges brought against them.

Senior Group Village Headman Mwimira, also known as Damiano Ntholo, is originally from Mwimira Village in Traditional Authority Wimbe, while Patricia hails from Chilima Village in Traditional Authority Mangwazu, and both are from Kasungu District.
