Lilongwe, Mana: Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) Nkhoma Synod in collaboration with Bible Society of Malawi has proposed for a big event at Bingu National Stadium in October, 2022 in commemoration of 100 years since translation of the bible into Chichewa version.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana), National Chairperson Committee for the event, Rev. Dr Davison Chifungo said that they have invited the state President, Dr Lazarus Chakwera to grace the centenary.
“In preparation for this big event we have organized a fundraising event dinner at Sunbird Hotel in Lilongwe in July,” he said.
Chifungo added that the aim of the dinner is to source funds for the big celebration at Bingu National stadium; as such people of different denomination are welcome to attend all functions.
Prior to the commemoration there will be another preparatory event which will take place at Kaso Hill in Dowa where prayers and different activities will be performed for the preparation of the big event in October.
One CCAP member, Chifundo Kunje has expressed her excitement about Chichewa Bible version clocking 100 years of existence since its first translation.
“This event is important to all Christians as we have been helped spiritually through easy understanding of God’s word in our own language,” she said.
Kunje has advised the Bible Society of Malawi and Nkhoma Synod to produce Chichewa commentaries because some words in Chichewa are limited and difficult to understand their meaning.
“I believe that commentaries from original version of the bible will help to address these issues as we feel more connected to God with simplified interpretations of the Word,” she said.
