Chaos as Blantyre City Council CEO Alfred Chanza calls off Mayoral polls

Blantyre City Council chief executive (CEO) officer Alfred Chanza has just announced that the Mayoral elections scheduled for today will not proceed following a court order.

Chanza says he has received a court order that there should be an interpartes hearing on matters regarding the elections.

Meanwhile, there are disagreements in the chamber as the CEO has made it clear that there is no court injunction, it is just a court order, so the councillors want the election to proceed.

Chanza has since been given 10 minutes to consult.
