President Lazarus Chakwera has urged Malawians to embrace the spirit of sharing during the Christmas period as one way of mirroring the love Jesus Christ showed to people.
He said this on Sunday at St. Matthias Anglican Church, Monkey-Bay in Mangochi District when he attended prayers as part of celebrating this year’s Christmas.

Chakwera said Christmas is time should share whatever with we have.
He said: “I am happy that today the First Lady and myself are alive. This is our last Sunday in the year 2022. We thank God for this.
“However, as we are celebrating this year’s Christmas, let me urge all Malawians to share whatever they have with their friends so that together we can have a wonderful moment.”
To this effect, the President stressed the need for Malawians to foster peace and unity as well as to be the light as commanded by Jesus.
“Like our preaching today, the coming in of Lord Jesus Christ means light. Then we need to embrace light which can bring hope and fight corruption among other challenges,” said Chakwera.
He further asked Malawians to hard work, saying it is through their hard-working spirit that the country can develop.
On his part, Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire vicar general Grant Tebulo thanked the President for attending prayers at the Anglican Church, saying this shows the strong relationship that exists between government and the church in Malawi.
“We have a cordial relationship with the government which dates years back. As a church we have social interventions and of course, we do a number of activities that support the government. So, the coming of the President affirms that relationship,” he explained.
Tebulo said they will continue supporting the government in a number of areas to ensure that the plans of the government are achieved.
He further applauded the government for distributing subsidised farm inputs to vulnerable communities despite facing oppressing factors and also for showing commitment to fight the cholera outbreak, which has ravaged the country.
To this end, he asked the church members and all Malawians to support the government by working hard and not lazing around.
During the prayers, the First Lady Monica Chakwera took advantage of the gathering to present gift hampers to the elderly and children. n
