Chakwera leaves for China today

President Lazarus Chakwera will leave the country today afternoon for China to attend the third China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) slated for June 28 to July 2 in Changsha City.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the President and First Lady Monica Chakwera are set to depart through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe and will return on July 3, 2023.

According to the statement, the visit is historical as it will be the first ever since Chakwera assumed office of in June 2020.

It further says the visit will help consolidate Malawi’s diplomatic ties with China and reaffirm the strategic economic and trade partnership between the two countries.

The expo will be held under the theme “Common Development for a shared Future” and the Malawi leader is expected to deliver a key note address.
