President Lazarus Chakwera announced plans to construct a road in the lower Shire region named after Sidik Mia, late husband to Minister Abida Mia, during his address.

Minister Abida Mia was visibly moved to tears by the announcement, seen wiping her face as the President spoke.

The proposed road, to be called the Sidik Mia Highway, received applause from the audience in Parliament.

Sidik Mia, a former Minister of Transport, passed away on January 12, 2021.
