Civil Rights advocates have given president Lazarus Chakwera 48 hours to make a public declaration that he is rallying behind Martha Chizuma, Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

According to the activists, failure to do so will attract a solidarity march with Chizuma if the public declaration is not done with 48 year hours.

The call has been made as Chizuma is facing different criticisms over a leakage audio clip in which she was discussing work related issues on the ongoing Zuneith Sattar corruption investigations.

The activists feel that the leakage of the phone call conversation is a clear indication that the independence of judicial independence is compromised hence calling upon Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda to ensure that Chizuma is not punished in any way.

“We are therefore appealing to the Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda to ensure that Chizuma is not punished for her honesty. Any punishment to Chizuma is a punishment to Malawians,” read part of the statement.

Recently, the Evangelical Conference of Malawi and Public Affairs Committee called on President Chakwera and Vice President Saulos Chilima to beef up security for Chizuma and other ACB staff.
