CDEDI demands refund of MK90 million spent on Kumuzu Day celebrations

Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) has asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to refund the MK90 million which was spent on the Kamuzu Day Commemoration at Kumuzu Stadium on Tuesday.

CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa made the call during a media briefing held in the capital Lilongwe on Thursday.

In his speech, Namiwa accused the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of turning the Kamuzu Day celebration into a political rally to counter the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) President Peter Mutharika at Njamba Freedom Park on Sunday.

Namiwa cited the remarks made by Chakwera where he said the Tonse Alliance government will continue ruling the country up to 20230.

He described the remarks as political in nature.
