NANKHUMWA: It does not make any sense that under these painful socioeconomic conditions, the Government should be spending millions of taxpayers’ money on a few people to be dining and wining when millions other Malawians cannot even afford a meal
Leader of the Opposition in Dr Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked President Chakwera to cancel this year’s 6 July Independence Celebration due to the prevailing economic conditions the country is going through and instead have a National Prayer Service to save the resources.
“It does not make any sense that under these painful socioeconomic conditions, the Government should be spending millions of taxpayers’ money on a few people to be dining and wining when millions other Malawians cannot even afford a meal.” said Nankhumwa
Nankhumwa has also asked President Chakwera to rescind his decision of hiking fuel price as this is a like a ‘death sentence’ to the poor people.
He has also slammed Chakwera of having AGGREKO levy on fuel when the government terminated the contract two months ago. He calls the decision not befitting the self proclaimed “man of God” because that is stealing from poor Malawians and that he must also initiate a policy to scrap off some levies on fuel which are causing pain on poor Malawians.
Malawians are reacting angrily to the decision of Chakwera of hiking the fuel just one month after a massive devaluation of the currency which saw basic needs prices rising beyond the roof.
