Nyasa Big Bullets say they have no plans to beef up their squad for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round.
Registration of players for the CAF inter-club competitions rolls out on August 1 to August 15 while the draw is set for September 9.
In an interview yesterday, the People’s Team chief administration officer Albert Chigoga said: “There are no plans to beef up the squad as we go into this phase. If need be, the coach will advise us.”
Bullets’ only new-signing: Willard
On whether this is a vote of confidence in their squad that it can stand the heat in the rough terrain of the African club showpiece, he said: “Well, the coach is at ease with the squad and should there be need, reinforcement will be done.”
During the recent transfer window which closed on Friday, Bullets only signed former Mafco defending midfielder Frank Willard on a three-year deal.
The reigning TNM Super League champions are the only club that will take part in the continental showpiece for the second year running, having fulfilled all the CAF club licensing requirements.
Football Association of Malawi licensing and compliance manager Casper Jangale said they are plased to have a representative in an inter-club tournament.
“Bullets’ participation has a lot of gains in terms of football growth and development,” he said.
Last year, Bullets were booted out of the tournament by AmaZulu of South Africa on a 3-1 aggregate, having won the first leg 1-0 away before losing the reverse fixture 3-1 in the preliminary round.
