Bullets humble Nomads to date their reserves side

Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday produced one of their stunning p e r f o r m a n c e s of the season thrashing Mukuru Wanderers 4-0 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe to book a spot in the finals of FDH Bank Cup.

Interestingly, they will face their reserve side in the country’s richest cup sponsored at K90 million.

It was a fluid passing game that saw Bullets dismantling Wanderers midfield for most of the game

Such kind of moves forced Wanderers to concede a corner just after six minutes, but it was wasted by Patrick Mwaungulu. After that, Ernest Petro played a good ball to Anthony Mfune in the box, but he blasted over

However, Wanderers countered attack, forcing a free-kick outside the box but Isaac Kaliati shot over the bar.

Bullets fluid game and aggression paid off in the 26th minute. Mfune won the ball on the right flank and crossed it to Gomezgani Chirwa, beating Miracle Gabeya before shooting into the roof of the net.

The stadium shook as red and white-clad fans celebrated with dancing and shouting. You could see an agitated Alex Ngwira shaking his head in annoyance at the touchline.

It was a team work goal that saw Bullets build play from the back. Muhammed Sulumba had an opportunity to equalise with a minute before half-time.

Bullets continued from where they left in the first half to continue their dominance. They maintained their possession with accuracy.

Chimwemwe Idana, Frank Willard and Ernest Petro orchestrated supplies to Mfune and Hassan Kajoke.

On the other hand, Wanderers midfield comprising Isaac Kaliati, Yamikani Chester and Misheck Botoman was outplayed. The pressure culminated in Gabeya, reeling under pressure conceding a penalty when he pulled Kajoke’s shirt in the 18-yard box.

He stepped and made no mistake to beat Wanderers goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa to extend the lead.

Soon after the second goal, Mfune made it 3-0 to put the match beyond their rivals reach.

The goal took the fight out of Wanderers players.

Coach Alex Ngwira for Wanderers added flesh legs and minds in 59th minute in a bid to contain the pressure.

Vitumbiko Kumwenda, Chiukepo Msowoya, Wisdom Mpinganjira and Vincent Nyangulu replaced Joseph Balakasi, Muhamad Sulumba, Misheck Botomani and Felix Zulu.

The tactic did not do the magic as Bullets continued to reign supreme with menacing attacks. They continued pinning Wanderers in their own half  with excellent passing game.

Kajoke hit the crossbar after being set up by substitute Adepoju Babatunde who replaced Mfune.

Babatunde added the icing on the cake with a neat finish just a minute before full-time.

The architect of the goal was Mwaungulu, whose clever pass found advancing Babatunde and he beat Chipuwa to send the red part of the stadium into jubilation.

In a post-match interview, Bullets coach Callisto Pasuwa praised a good compact game plan that worked well.

“Our plan was to score and defend our goals. In our recent games with Wanderers, we manged to score but conceded needlessly. It’s a great win and it will be a great final.

Ngwira had no excuse for the loss in a post-match brief saying

“We didn’t play well. We did not defend well. It wasn’t like us. We were second on the ball and needlessly lost possession. We just did not rise up to the occasion,” he said.

Bullets Reserves beat Extreme 2-1 in the first semi-finals on course to set history.
