The organizer of ‘Malawi Salibwino’ demonstrations Bon Kalindo, has vowed to obtain an injunction against the Malawi police who released a statement restraining vigils at Chingeni toll gate plaza in Balaka.

According to Kalindo, he is currently discussing with their lawyers to obtain an injunction against the police statement.

He further said, all the preparations have already been done and if the injunction is granted they will proceed with the vigils.

kalindo has been announcing that he will hold vigils at toll plaza to force the government to declare that any motorist should be paying once at a toll gate per day.

He expressed worry over the tendency of the police which he claims aims at frustrating those exercising their constitutional rights.

Malawi police through its spokesperson James Kadadzera, in the statement, said the Section 237 of the penal code criminalizes the intentional endangering of the safety of persons traveling by road.

“This includes dealing with the road in such a manner that affects the free flow and safe use of the road or safety of any person,” said Kadadzera.

Meanwhile, the police have threatened to crack down anyone holding vigils at Chingeni toll plaza.
