Blantyre derby tickets hit market

Advance tickets for Saturday’s FDH Bank Cup semi-final between sworn rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe hit the market on Monday.

A statement issued by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) yesterday, signed by its commercial and marketing director Limbani Matola, states that a standard ticket is fetching K3 000 while on match day it will be K4 000.

VIP tickets are selling at K10 000 each and on match day spectators will pay K2 000 more.

Matola: We expect
a huge turnout

A seat in the comfort of a corporate box has been pegged at K15 000 while on match day it will be K20 000.

The statement reads in part: “We are quite aware that their fixture is always synonymous with huge turnout of fans. We are expecting a lot of people to come to BNS to witness this explosive fixture.

“Therefore, we are putting in place several initiatives to ensure safety and security, upgraded fans’ experience and revenue optimisation.”

FAM says the advance ticketing window will close this Friday.

The statement further reads: “This [the closure of the window] affords the fans the opportunity of more time to purchase match day tickets in advance at their own convenience.

“The tickets are competitively priced to enable the fans watch and support their beloved teams. FAM has gone further to offer discount incentives on all tickets bought in advance, therefore, guaranteeing some savings to the fans.”

The selling points in Lilongwe   include the following service stations Area 25 Sana Shop, Kanengo Puma, Area 18 Puma, City Centre Blue Wave Puma, Mbowe Puma, Maula Puma, Kafoteka, Kawale Energem, Area 23, Walker’s Total at Biwi Triangle and Likuni Enegerm.

Other points are BNS and MICI Hardware opposite Acres Gateway Mall.

In Blantyre, the tickets are being sold at Limbe Market Total and Ndirande Energem service stations. They can also be bought at FDH Bank plc branches in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

FAM says it has deployed extra measures to step up safety and security of players, the fans and property.

The statement reads: “We have engaged two private security firms to support the efforts of police and stewards.

“In collaboration with Bingu National Stadium management, we are also increasing access points [gates] into the stadium. We are opening an additional gate for motor vehicles coming through the Mtandire side and two additional access points on both sides for the fans.

“This means that access points into the stadium have been doubled effectively reducing congestion when entering and going out of the stadium.”

BNS manager Ambirike Mwaungulu yesterday said they are working on the final touches to ensure that the facility is ready to host the most sought-after fixture on the domestic scene.

During the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg between Bullets and Simba Sporting Club, some fans caused damage when they forced their way into the stadium and the stadium manager said they are working on that.

Said Mwaungulu: “We are working on getting resources to work on the damaged areas so that everything should be in place by Friday.”
