Blantyre City Council To Seal Premises Over Unpaid Arrears

Blantyre City Council (BCC) has said it will start closing premises whose owners have not yet paid city arrears by January 31, 2022.

“The Council is advising all the residents that once properties are sealed, it is expected that the properties remains as such until payment is made and the council opens the premises,” the statement stated.

It further highlighted that any attempt to open the closed premises is an offence and will result in commencement of criminal proceedings.

The exercise will cover all areas that fall under the Central Business District and residential areas.

“If residents contribute generously through the city rates, the Council will comfortably fulfill mandate of providing municipal services,” The Statement further explained.
