Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has rescheduled the match between rookies Bangwe All Stars and champions FCB Nyasa Bullets from Saturday to Friday at Mpira Stadium.
Sulom general secretary Williams Banda confirmed the change in an interview yesterday.
Banda: We got instruction from FAM
He said: “We got instruction from [FAM] Football Association of Malawi to reschedule the game to Friday.
“We were told one of the teams will not be available to play the match on Saturday.”
Banda did not explain why one of the teams will not be available for the fixture on Saturday, but Bullets in statement said they may be involved in Kamuzu Day commemorations activities on Sunday.
A statement from the club reads: “The fixture, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 13, has been rescheduled because The People’s Team may likely travel to Lilongwe to participate in the Kamuzu Day commemoration event at the Bingu National Stadium on Sunday, May 14.”
A source at FAM said they receive a request from Ministry of Sport that Bullets and Silver Strikers match should spice up Kamuzu Day commemoration.
Bullets are tied with Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on 10 points and goal difference after week four of the season.
Silver also have 10 points and a lower goal difference on third position from four games as well.
Bangwe, on the other hand, are fourth with six points from the same number of games.
They collected their first full points after stunning Karonga United 2-1 at Karonga Stadium on Sunday.
Bangwe coach Mabvuto Lungu said the victory was the breakthrough he was waiting for after three draws in the first three matches.
The former Bullets coach said: “Now we look forward to this next match against Bullets.”
Bangwe signed former Bullets players Chimango Kayira and goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe.
They also have youngsters Rahaman John, Yamikani Mologeni, Chimwemwe Yassin, Chikumbutso Salima and Emmanuel Saviel on loan from the People’s Team.
However, the loaned players are not eligible to play against their parent club, according to the agreement between the clubs.
