Aunt Tiwo’s ex-husband Steven Monjeza wants a Car from Malawians

Aunt Tionge Chimbalanga’s former husband Steven Monjeza has asked Malawians to buy him a car and a state-of-the-art house.

Monjeza, the first Malawian to declare his gay status in 2010, made the appeal through a viral video clip made available to the publication.

The first gay to be jailed Monjeza further extended the appeal to his ex-wife Tionge who is currently in South Africa.

“Am still around,” said Monjeza, adding that: “am currently struggling to earn a living; I need a car, house and food.”

Chimbalanga and Monjeza made history when they tied the knot in a traditional chinkhoswe marriage ceremony in 2010.

They became the first same-sex couple to do so in Malawi where homosexual acts are illegal.

The two were sentenced to 14-years imprisonment before being pardoned by the then president Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika.
