Asian Muslim Relief Aid, Road to Relief partners Dodma with K15m donation

The Asian Muslim Relief Aid (Amra) and Road to Relief today handed over relief items to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) worth K15 million.

The donated items which included maize flour, beans, salt, tea, soya pieces, sugar and soap, will be airlifted to Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Makanjira in Mangochi.

Speaking after handing over the donation, Amra director Nizzam Jussab said they decided to make the donation to the people of Makanjira because the area is not passable as their roads have been cut off. “These items will be airlifted by the World Food Programme by tommorrow.

” We are also planning to bring some more donations but Dodma will guide us which areas are in much need.”

On her part, Road to Relief board member Shahina Nathwani said her female-led charity organisation said in this time of need, it is important that they stand together with fellow Malawians in this time of disaster.

“We are here to make a difference to our fellow Malawians. Our next step os now to fundraise for rehabilitation,” she said.

On his part, Dodma deputy director for preparedness Fedson Chikuse thanked the organisations for the donation, which he said will go along way in alleviating suffering of the people in the Southern Region.
