A group of over 20 artists, who last week held a fundraising concert in aid flood survivors, will today hand over assorted items realised from the event.
In an interview lead organiser of the initiative Levi Msakambewa said they have bought 100 bags of maize, 500 plastic cups and sourced new and second-hand clothes.

“We initially planned to hand over these at different camps in Nsanje District, but we have had transport challenges; hence, the decision to hand over to DoDma [Department of Disaster Management Affairs] in Lilongwe,” he said.
Msakambewa said they bought the items following guidance from Mgumano wa Sena and Mang’anja officials in Chikwawa and Nsanje districts who told them of the immediate needs of the people.
In an earlier interview, representative of the artists, William Zonda of Great Angels Choir, said through the initiative, they want to give back to Malawians for their unwavering support.
He said: “Malawians buy our CDs and attend our concerts. Now, some of them are affected by these floods and the right thing to do is to support them.”
Zonda said artists may not have the money, but they have talent which they can use to raise funds.
He said among other sponsors, the artists got a free venue for their concert at Sunbird Hotels (Capital Hotel), Atlas Realtors and several individuals, who donated while others attended the event.
The concert which took place on February 27, brought together artists such as Skeffa Chimoto, Kell Kay, Great Angels Choir, Marvellous Deeds, Wikise, Thocco Katimba and Dr Joram, among other artists.
