People in Senior Chief Ngabu in Chikwawa District have asked authorities to arrest a man on suspicion that he defiled his daughter.
Speaking on Thursday during a media tour organised by National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust, Yusuf Naison, a community member who is also Ngabu Victim Support Unit chairperson, said the suspect allegedly impregnated his 16-year-old daughter in November in 2021.
“At the moment, the daughter has a four-month-old baby. We were expecting to see the suspect being arrested because it is wrong for a father to impregnate his daughter,” he said.
Another community member, Triphonia Zambezi said they reported the matter to police, but the suspect was not arrested.
When asked, the district’s community policing coordinator Kingsley Mvuthe pledged to investigate the incident.
“I cannot deny this because it is coming from the communities, but we will investigate it. However, as police, we are committed to helping people on such issues,” he said.
Chikwawa Nice civic education officer Kondwani Malunga asked police to ensure that such cases are prosecuted to earn people’s trust.
Besides this issue, it also came to light that an 11-year-old girl in the area was defiled by a man who is yet to be arrested.
Nice conducted the initiative under the Chilungamo Project with funding from the European Union
