A group of concerned citizens is holding a seven-day vigil at Kamuzu Mausoleum in Lilongwe to force President Lazarus Chakwera to fire Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) director general Martha Chizuma.

The ACB boss is accused of violating the oath of office following a leaked audio in which she was allegedly discussing with an outsider about the state of corruption investigations.

The vigil started on Friday night immediately after Chakwera left for Switzerland.

When Nation on Sunday crew visited the site of the vigil on Saturday, it saw youthful people either sleeping or cooking food. Some were seen sharing stories in groups.

The vigil site was littered with empty boxes of packed meals.

Some members of the group accused their leaders of allegedly lacking transparency on their sources of funding.

Leader of the grouping Redson Munlo could not be reached for his comment on Saturday and when we visited the vigil site, he was not around.

A week ago, the group demonstrated in Lilongwe and presented a petition to the office of the District Commissioner.
