Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has appointed Andrew Mpesi as Chief Elections Officer.

Mec spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa has confirmed the development.

Mpesi is a Governance Specialist with about 18 years of experience, ten of which have been in senior management positions.

Before the appointment, Mpesi worked for USAID Malawi as Governance Specialist responsible for elections and parliamentary portfolio.

He holds a Master of Arts (Political Science), Bachelor of Arts (Public Administration) and Postgraduate Diploma in Health Systems Management.
