European Union (EU) programmes manager responsible for sustainable agriculture Marco Vacirca has expressed satisfaction with the impact made by Afikepo programme in Chitipa District.
He said this on Thursday at Ishalikila Primary School during events marking official handover of the Afikepo and Kulima programmes to Chitipa District Council.
“We have seen how the projects have transformed farmers’ lives as they have embraced new farming technologies and crop diversification,” said Vacirca.
He also noted that the two projects have promoted income-generating activities among farmers.
Chitipa District Council chairperson Toweracharo Mnyenyembe commended the EU and its partners for funding Afikepo and Kulima programmes through the Food Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

She encouraged the community to continue with the initiatives they learned under Afikepo and Kulima projects.
“As Chitipa District Council, we will not stop at anything. We will support the farmers to make sure that the programmes continue,” she said.
On her part, Tutulane Farmer Field School community-based facilitator Maggie Silumbu from Senior Chief Kameme said Afikepo and Kulima projects have improved people’s lives in the district.
“Households have accumulated assets through the two projects. In our group, we ventured into honey business and we have realised K5.8 million,” she said.
