Qmam task force set for smooth AGM

Quadria Muslim Association of Malawi (Qmam) says it is hopeful and ready for smooth and peaceful elections to be held tomorrow in Lilongwe during an Annual General Meeting (AGM) amid internal wrangles.

This will be the first ever elective conference to be organised by the association since it was established in 1999.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Qmam task force chairperson Suya Jefule urged the Muslim community to be patient and come to vote for their executive committee.

He said: “All issues that were blocking the conference were cleared by the court which ruled that the AGM should take place and we have earmarked this Saturday for the AGM.

Jefule: We are ready

“We believe the AGM will be a milestone in realising Qmam agenda of helping the well-being of all people in the country.”

The task force has since condemned some individuals of Asian origin who are conniving with other local muslim members to keep on bringing confusions in the association.

In a separate interview,  Qmam task of the Sunni Ulama Council secretary Sheikh Hajji Yatimu expressed ignorance of reports that a certain grouping within the association has already held its elective conference, saying the only legal conference is the one to be held tomorrow.

Among others, the task force said the conference will attract representatives from different Muslim groups countrywide
