Representatives of National Bank of Malawi (NBM) are speaking highly about the Kwathu Pa Mo Promotion which increased usage of its digital payment platform, Mo626, by 20 percent in January.
This came out over the weekend when the bank conducted the first draw of the promotion in Blantyre.
NBM Head of Digital Financial Services William Kaunda said the main aim of the promotion was to encourage Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) tenants and other people to pay their house rentals, application fees and ground rentals through the platform.
“MHC has more than 6,000 houses nationwide and the tenants pay through NBM service centres and other channels but this promotion has now made life easier for them not to queue or cover long distances to make these payments; they are now doing all these transactions in the comfort of their houses or offices.
“From the numbers that we are seeing, this promotion has increased the usage of the Mo626 platform which is secure, reliable and provides a rare banking experience. We are expecting that this usage will increase in the coming months and years because, as the Bank of the Nation, we provide exciting financial solutions to our customers,” Kaunda said.
MHC Public Relations Officer Ernestina Lunguzi indicated that the promotion increased rental payments in the month.
“We have seen an increase in house and ground rentals in the month, which indicates that most of our clients would want to pay their dues in the comfort of their homes or offices,” Lunguzi said.
During the draw, three lucky customers won one month house rent paid by the Bank and three customers got K50,000 shopping vouchers for paying ground rent.
Other 20 customers won NBM branded items but, in the final draw, one lucky customer will win six months’ worth of house rent paid for by the bank and one ground rent customer will win K500,000.
