The Mkukula Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM) Court in Dowa District, has sentenced a 60 year old man Cheliyo William to 13 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling his 15 year-old niece.

State prosecutor Inspector Jones F. Phandama told the court that the convict had been defiling the girl since November, 2021 until January 2022 at Dzoole Village in the district.

Appearing in court, the convict pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him.

Passing sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Montfort Misunje slapped William with 13 years IHL to deter other would – be offenders
