Leadership with Compassion Party in mass NRB registration campaign ahead of 2025 polls

Leadership with Compassion Party (LCP) President Dr. Sally Kumwenda has urged all party followers across the country to go and register their identities with the National Registration Bureau (NRB) if they want to take part in the next year’s polls.

Dr. Kumwenda’s call comes barely hours after NRB revealed that it has only registered about 1,300 Malawians since the bureau commenced the mass national identity card registration exercise last year in redness for the 2025 polls.

Speaking in an interview with faceofmalawi Dr. Kumwenda described the NRB exercise as very crucial ahead of the polls and urged all LCP supporters to go and register in large numbers.

“The registration is very important because the National ID will enable our supporters to be able to acquire voters registration certificate to enable them to vote. Otherwise without the ID they will not have the needed voters registration certificate consequently not being eligible to vote.

“The earlier the better. You [LCP supporters] need to start the process now in case of errors so that they get to be fixed on time. For Malawi to change it needs the leadership of LCP and for LCP to lead Malawi it needs your votes. A better Malawi is possible but only through your vote. So let us in large numbers go and register,” said Dr. Kumwenda.

She further hinted that her party has currently launched massive campaign on the exercise after noticing that many people in the country have lost interest in voting due to poor leadership.

“We have already started educating people on what we have learnt through MEC meetings countrywide alongside encouraging our supporters to go and register their identities with the NRB to be eligible to vote in the upcoming elections,” she added.

However, Dr. Kumwenda expressed dissatisfaction with the number of people who have registered with NRB.

“I am not really satisfied with the numbers of people who have registered to acquire National ID because the number is still small but I believe that as we are continuing to spread ourselves and sensitizing the people of the importance of participating in voting, many people will come forward,” she said.

Once elected in 2025 polls, Dr. Sally Kumwenda will be the first female Malawi President to be elected on the high post through the ballot.
