Former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has arrive in Blantyre ahead of the public rally at Njamba Freedom Park this coming Sunday.
The opposition DPP has hit the ground-running ahead of the 2025 polls and Mutharika is scheduled to be the party’s torchbearer.
Mutharika wrote ahead of the rally: “Moni a Malawi anzanga kuchokera mu mzinda wa Blantyre. Ndabwera kuno kuti lamulungu lino ndikuoneni, ndiponso inu mundione, pa msonkhano wathu pa Njamba Freedom Park.
“Kodi mwakonzeka kale? Tiyeni tikumane pa Njamba, tipitirize ndi mfundo zokonza dziko lathu. Mfundo zokweza chitetezo, zopereka chilungamo ndi chitukuko.”
Mutharika is scheduled to face President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who has also been endorsed as Malawi Congress Party (MCP) torchbearer in the 2025 polls.
He is also scheduled to face his own child Kondwani Nankhumwa who has formed his own political party called Peoples Development Party (PDP).
