Road Accident Claims One Life, Three Injured In Blantyre

A 11 year-old girl has been reported died while two others have sustained various degrees of injuries following a road accident in Blantyre.

Limbe Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Aubrey Singanyama confirmed the matter saying; the incident happened along Makhetha- Ndirande road.

Singanyama said the accident involved a motor vehicle registration number NS 1071 Toyota Axio Saloon which was being driven by Noel Chiume,37,from the direction of Makhetha towards Ndirande.

“As he was making a turn, he lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speeding and thereby hitting three pedestrians identified as Bridget Makhuwanya,11, Angela Dickson,9, and another one only known as Sabuli who were crossing the road,” he said.

He added that due to the impact, the motor vehicle swerved to left side and finally landed into a ditch.

He further said currently, two victims are receiving medical treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and Bridget Makhuwanya was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, Police in the area are urging all road users to follow traffic signs and regulations and observe speed limit to avoid road accidents.

Chiume who has been charged with Reckless driving Contrary to Section 126 of Road Traffic Act hails from Usiysa village in the area of Traditional Authority M’bwana in Blantyre District.
