Territorial Fight Of Fishermen In Zambia Claims One Life

A 38 year old Fisherman of Chanyanya Village of Kafue District has drowned in the Kafue River following a fight that erupted between fishermen from Nanga in Mazabuka District and Chanyanya.

Nega Nega Ward Councilor, Live Choongo, disclosed that the fight concerning fishing boundaries happened on Thursday morning around 03:00 hours.

Choongo further revealed that during the conflict, some fishing nets and boats belonging to three Chanyanya Fishermen were grabbed by those from Nega Nega.

He said the three Chanyanya Fishermen were compelled to swim ashore through a canal in Nanga during which the deceased identified as Geoffrey Mweene met his fate, with the other two making it to shore.

He noted that Mweene’s body was retrieved and deposited in Kafue General Hospital Mortuary with help from the Fire Brigade.
