Malawi has raked over Mk64 billion from tobacco sales, two weeks since the opening of this year’s market.
Tobacco Commission Spokesperson, Telephorus Chigwenembe said that during the same period last year, tobacco growers had sold 8.1 million kgs of green gold valued at $16 million.
On Friday April 26th, 2024, about 14 million Kgs of tobacco of all types have been sold at a combined value of $37 million.
This year’s tobacco marketing season was officially opened on 15 April and is currently in its third week.
