Government to use Deflectometer to assess Nsanje Marka road

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara Thursday announced that government would start using Deflectometer machines to assess roads in the country including Nsanje-Marka road after completion of works.

He made the announcement in Nsanje after inspecting a number of construction projects including the Nsanje-Marka road in the district.

“A Deflectometer machine will be used to assess the quality of Nsanje Marka road. And the results will affect the future of the consultants and the contractor further works on government contracts or not,” Hara said.

Hara assured the people of Nsanje that government would soon start constructing a state of Art Bridge at Mtayamoyo in the district that would handle both railway and road traffic.

Nsanje District Council Chairperson, Rose Makiyi said she was glad that the Minister had acknowledged the concerns of people in Nsanje on some of the problems surrounding construction of the 25 kilometres Nsanje-Marka Road.

The construction works of Nsanje Marka road is expected to end in May, 2022.
