Govt Responds To Catholic Bishops

Government through the ministry of Information has responded to concerns and fears raised by the Catholic’s body of Bishops Episcopal Conference of Malawi in as far as Anti-Corruption Bureau’s (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma security is concerned in the course of fighting corruption.

Over the week, Catholic Bishops released a letter asking President Lazarus Chakwera and his vice Saulos Chilima to ensure that Chizuma is protected at all cost.

“We appeal to the Head of State, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, the vice president Dr. Saulos Chilima and all relevant state institutions and their heads to ensure the security of the ACB staff, especially the Director General,” read part of the statement.

In his response government spokesperson Gospel Kazako said government will boost up the security of Chizuma so that she should be able to work without facing any type of glitches and intimidations.

He then commended the Bishops zealous work they are doing in the country in ensuring that good governance is being served to the citizens at the same time, describing the as key partners in developing the country.

“You know the Catholic Church is the key partner in so many things and when they are seeing that there are certain things that we can also do and when they are reminding us, I think that gives us a lot of confidence that we are not alone in this battle the church is also with us,” said Kazako.

According to reports top officials in the Tonse Alliance government the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are involved in massive corruption and are connected to the infamous Zuneith Sattar corruption scandal.
