Police in Mponela, Dowa district, have arrested one of their own for failing to pay lodging fees at Discovery Lodge.
According to a police report, Sergeant Francis Mikondo, aged 35, a few days ago, he went to the said lodge and informed the receptionist that he was a police officer who had come for training at Mbolembole Motel.
After spending several days at the lodge, employees there asked him to pay for the accommodation, but he told them to wait as he was expecting a check.
When questioned further about the payment, he did not say anything and decided to run away, but he was captured by lodge workers who took him to the police station where it was discovered that he had been working at the Golomoti Police Station.
It was also revealed that he had defrauded several individuals of up to K800,000, promising to help them secure loans.
Additionally, it was found that the Golomoti Police Station did not have all the necessary training facilities at Mbolembole Motel.
Currently, the police are investigating to determine what he was doing while staying at the Discovery Lodge.
