In Mangochi, a 30-year-old man died while attempting to steal fish from his friend’s fishing net in Lake Malombe.

Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased is Issah Kamwendo from Namasiyano Village under Chief Chimwala in Mangochi.

Reports indicate that on February 26, 2024, Kamwendo sneaked out at night to fish in his friend’s net in Lake Malombe.

However, while in the act of stealing, the owner of the net and his friends appeared, causing Kamwendo to jump into the water in an attempt to escape.

Unfortunately, he drowned, and his body was found floating in the lake the following day, February 27, 2024.

A post-mortem conducted at the hospital confirmed Kamwendo’s cause of death as drowning.
