Police at Chileka in Blantyre have two people on suspicious that they own 85 bags of charcoal without license.
Police have confiscated forestry products and also impounded the vehicle used to transport that charcoal.
Spokesperson for Chileka Police, Jonathan Phillipo has confirmed the evelopment and identified the suspects as Mike Bwanali and Roben Samuel.
Accordind to Phillipo, the incident happened during the night of 9 February 2024 near Mtengo Umodzi Health Center along the Blantyre-Chileka M1 road.
On the stated date, the law enforcers were on their normal night patrol duties and upon reaching Kameza Roundabout, they intercepted a lorry registration BL1623 Nisan which was driven by Steva.
After searching the vehicle, police found 85 bags of charcoal belonging to two suspects (Bwanali and Samuel) who were arrested immediately.
Therefore, police impounded the car as the driver escaped the scene leaving the vehicle who is now at large.
The suspects will soon appear before court of law after the completion of paperwork to answer charges applied to them.
Mike Bwanali is 41 year-old hails from Mchotseni village, T/A Kanduku in Mwanza while Roben Samuel is 48 who hails from Chasesa village/A Mulauli in Neno District.
