Authorities in Mozambique have suspended border police officers who recently assaulted Elaston Ngonyani, a Malawian truck driver, pending an investigation.
The officials revealed this after meeting their Malawian counterparts in Mangochi over the past three days, where a joint technical committee of officials met on Malawi-Mozambique border reaffirmation and emerging issues.
The Malawi consular general for Tete province, Happy Saka, and representatives of the Malawi Truck Drivers Association raised reports of brutality, unfair treatment, and corruption by security agencies on the roads traversing Malawi and Mozambique.
They are meeting again in Tete in the next two weeks, where all the other relevant authorities will gather.
