Former Member Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Karonga North Constituency Nelson Mwambungu has collapsed to death at his home in Mwanjasi village.

His son Mutende has confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local media houses in the country (Zodiak broadcasting station).

According to Mutende, his father was rushed to the district hospital but was confirmed dead by the medics upon arrival.

Mwambungu ventured into politics in 1959 and served as an MP for Karonga north during the MCP regime and a Councilor during the UDF administration.

He has died at the age of 94.
