Man in for killing father over K1 000

Police in Nkhotakota have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly killing his father John Kachape, 60, over K1 000.

It is reported that on January 2 2024, the suspect came home while drunk and demanded K1 000 from his brother.

Disagreements erupted between the suspect and his mother which forced the father to intervene.

In the process, the suspect took a brick and hit his father in the chest.

Some well-wishers took him to Mwansambo Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The matter was reported to Mwansambo Police Unit and officers visited the crime scene.

Post-mortem conducted at Mwansambo Health Centre showed death was due to internal bleeding.

Following the incident, officers arrested the suspect and he will appear in court to answer a murder charge contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.

Both the suspect and the deceased are from Luwera Village, Traditional Authority Mwansambo in the district.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Merlyn Yolamu has expressed satisfaction with how police officers have performed in 2023.

She said this on January 3 2024 when she visited Masuku, Chiponde and Namwera police formations in Mangochi District.

She said: “The performance of officers in 2023 was splendid. Officers recovered 40 rifles and various stolen items in the just-ended year.

“I am receiving a lot of compliments from the public expressing their satisfaction with our work and I thank you for the feat.”
